Gnome Welcome
I think I might have offended my neighbor. Was I wrong?
Recently, I had a new neighbor move in next door to me. I’m not prejudiced or anything, but my new neighbor is a little person who’s about 3 feet tall.
So, I saw him tending to his garden the other day, and I went out and introduced myself to welcome him to the neighborhood.
I wanted to make him feel comfortable so I asked him about himself. I asked him about his job and then I asked him if he was good at gardening because he was a Gnome — (or a Gnome-American), and if it was a tradition that had been past down to him.
I think I may have offended him, so now I’m wondering why … I’m not sure if he’s ashamed of his heritage and doesn’t like to talk about it. I’d like to ask him more questions, like about when they wear the red hats. Are you not supposed to ask little people about their ancestors (I’m pretty sure they’re descended from gnomes). I don’t know why they wouldn’t want to talk about it — I’m Irish-American and like to talk about Irish food and drink if asked.
You know what is the worst thing for a handicaped person?
When people look at him and then look away as if it is normall, he feels it and he feels bad.
So back to your story, despite the guy is not handicaped or anything, you only said something that both of you know, so, he will be a stupid neighboor if he got upset about it.
