I live in a two floor townhouse with the townhouses in one building in a “row”, our back porch is less than 2 feet away from our neighbors and when your out there their obviously in talking range.

You are in the privacy of your own home. Live comfortably, but be sure to be courteous when you come in eye contact with a neighbor. A simple hello is nice. You are right on when you suggest purchasing plants etc. If it’s not against policy to do, feel free to make your home as comfy as possible.
